The ‘6’ wagon is here!

Mazda has finally presented the wagon version of its highly anticipated new mid-size Mazda 6 at the Paris motor show last Thursday. The company will release the wagon alongside the Mazda 6 sedan in Australia in the first quarter of next year, when it is expected to challenge the Honda Accord.

The wagon will be the second new model line launched by Mazda Australia exclusively powered by the company’s new efficient SkyActiv engines, following the CX-5 compact SUV launched earlier this year.

Mazda’s chief executive Takashi Yamanouchi said at the show that SkyActiv engines will be fitted exclusively across the brand’s full passenger vehicle range within four years.

Ichiro Hirose told a contingent of Australian media including GoAuto that the new 2.5 litre petrol engine will also be fitted globally to the CX-5 from next year.

Dreams Come Reality in Time

Mazda is holding onto the dream of re-creating a new generation RX-7 sports car – complete with a rotary engine .Mazda design chief Ikuo Maeda whose father Matasaburo Maedo designed the very first RX-7 told GoAuto at the Paris motor show last week that, having succeeded his father as design chief, still aims to follow him as an RX-7 designer.

Many Mazda traditionalists see the RX-7 and the rotary engine as icons of the brand that must one day return and appear to be maintaining the dream.

Ikuo is lucky to have an important ally in engineering ace Ichiro Hirose, the recently appointed general manager of Mazda Europe’s R&D centre and responsible for the brand’s SkyActiv technologies. Mr Hirose, who is also a Mazda Europe vice-president, told GoAuto in Paris that Mazda was still working on a Sky Rotary but, like Mr Maeda, made it clear that nothing could be done until the company was in better financial health.

“At this moment we are not in a position to restart again, but if in future we earn more money then I believe there is a chance.”

The company is willing take advantage of this design idea when the Japanese company again becomes profitable.

All-New Mazda6 Wagon Revealed in Paris

Paris, France – Mazda has today unveiled the All-New Mazda6 wagon at the 2012 Paris Motor show.

The All-New Mazda6 wagon will join the recently revealed All-New Mazda6 sedan on the Mazda stand, with both featuring Mazda’s new SKYACTIV-D 2.2 litre clean diesel engine.

Available in Australia in the first quarter of 2013, the Mazda6 is also available with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5 litre petrol engine.

The All-New Mazda6 features Mazda’s new-generation ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design theme and the groundbreaking, new i-ELOOP regenerative braking technology, as standard across the range.

The Paris Motor Show runs from September 29 to October 14.

Mazda has chosen the Australian International Motor Show for the world premiere of the show stopping new CX-9.

The plans for the exclusive high profile reveal were announced by Mazda Australia and Mazda Motor Corporation yesterday, along with a collection of Australian market photos of the new-look wagon. The CX-9 will be unveiled alongside the all new Mazda6 sedan and wagon in their Australian debut

To date so far this year, Mazda Australia has sold 3002 CX-9s , up an amazing 33.2 per cent over the first eight months of last year.

The CX-9 has received a facelift including design changes at the front and rear but also gained some new hi-tech features including forward collision warning, lane departure warning and automatic high-beam headlights, voice recognition control, as well as the latest satellite navigation and audio systems.

The CX-9 has a 3.7-litre V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission – the sole powertrain on offer in the seven-seat SUV.

Mazda’s new flagship model fully incorporates both SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and the KODO-SOUL OF MOTION design theme

MELBOURNE, Australia — Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of the all-new Mazda6 sedan, totally redesigned for the first time in five years, at the 2012 Moscow Motor Show.

The Moscow Motor Show begins August 29 and runs through to September 9, 2012.

The new Mazda6 is the second of Mazda’s new generation of products which incorporates both the full range of SKYACTIV technologies and the new KODO-SOUL OF MOTION design language.

It will also be the first model equipped with Mazda’s brake energy regeneration system, i-ELOOP.

The introduction of i-ELOOP marks stage two of Mazda’s ‘Building Block Strategy’ for environmental technology development.

The strategy calls for thorough improvements in base automotive technologies before the step-by-step introduction of electric devices to improve fuel economy and reduce carbon emissions.

The new Mazda6 draws on the best of Mazda’s technical expertise and craftsmanship across all domains, from dynamic performance and design, through to environmental performance and safety.

The new Mazda6 stands as the flagship model for a new generation of Mazda products. It features a sense of dignity, style, luxury feel and comfort expected from a vehicle in the CD segment whilst offering the pleasure of responsive and agile driving, which is at the core of the Mazda brand.

The model to be exhibited at the Moscow Motor Show is a Russian specification sedan equipped with a direct-injection SKYACTIV-G 2.0 petrol engine and six-speed SKYACTIV–DRIVE automatic transmission.

The official name of the motor show is Moscow International Automobile Salon 2012.

Press days will be August 29 and 30 and it will be opened to public from August 31 to September 9.

Mazda maintains record pace

Mazda Australia finished the first half of 2012 as it started — on record sales pace — with the country’s top-selling import brand setting a new retail record of 9593 sales in June.

According to VFACTS figures released today, Mazda Australia sold 52133 vehicles during the first sixth months of the year (9.5 per cent market share) for an increase of 19 per cent on last year’s January to June total.

The All-New Mazda CX-5 once again topped the sales charts in the Medium SUV segment with 1,955, a record result that made the newest member of Mazda Australia’s line-up and the first in the range to embrace the full suite of SKYACTIV Technology and KODO design, the country’s best selling SUV.

Mazda3, with 3924 sales and 15.9 per cent market share, was again Australia’s number one passenger selling car. Mazda3 sales are up 2.8 per cent year-on-year.

Mazda2, with 1510 retails and BT-50 with 1135 sales, also contributed significantly to the record monthly total.

Mazda Australia’s Managing Director Doug Dickson said “Mazda’s sales performance during June again demonstrates Mazda’s brand momentum. The CX-5 result clearly demonstrates that Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology and KODO design are a perfect fit for the Australian market and points to more success for the brand in the year’s ahead”

Mazda and Fiat Announce Co-operation Program

Mazda Motor Corporation (Mazda) and Fiat Group Automobiles S.p.A. (Fiat) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development and manufacturing of a new roadster for the Mazda and Alfa Romeo marques based on Mazda’s next-generation MX-5 rear-wheel-drive architecture.

The study calls for both Mazda and Fiat to develop two differentiated, distinctly styled, iconic and brand-specific light weight, roadsters featuring rear-wheel drive. The Mazda and Alfa Romeo variants will each be powered by specific proprietary engines unique to each brand.

The project assumption is that both vehicles will be manufactured at Mazda’s Hiroshima, Japan, plant with production for Alfa Romeo envisaged starting in 2015.

“Establishing technology and product development alliances is one of Mazda’s corporate objectives and this announcement with Fiat is an important first step in that direction. It is especially exciting to be collaborating with such a prestigious marque as Alfa Romeo on a new roadster based on the next-generation MX-5, which is such an iconic vehicle for Mazda and recognized as the best-selling roadster of all time.” said Takashi Yamanouchi, Mazda’s Representative Director and Chairman of the Board, President and CEO.

“This agreement clearly demonstrates our commitment to Alfa Romeo and the determination to grow it into a truly global brand. By partnering with Mazda, we will be co-operating with the recognized leader in compact rear-drive vehicle architectures in order to deliver an exciting and stylish roadster in the Alfa Romeo tradition. We are appreciative of this collaboration with Mazda and look forward to maintaining a fruitful and continuous relationship.” said Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne.

The Final Agreement is expected to be signed in the second-half of 2012.

Mazda and Fiat have also agreed to discuss further opportunities for co-operation in Europe

Mazda caps off record first quarter with all-time high in March

Mazda Australia has capped off a record first quarter performance with a best-ever month of 9,345 sales according to VFACTS figures released today.

That is 207 sales up on the company’s previous best result of 9,138 last August.

Strong demand for All-New CX-5 and BT-50 sent sales sky-rocketing with the All-New CX-5 achieving an impressive 1,419 retails and All-New BT-50 not far behind at 1,124.

Mazda’s SUV sales were further boosted by 492 sales of CX-7 now in runout, which together with All-New CX-5, brought Mazda’s total in the Medium SUV segment to 1,911 (21.5 per cent share).

Clocking up 3,818 retails, Mazda3, Australia’s top-selling car last year, continued its strong run holding on to top spot for March and the quarter.

Mazda2 with 1,510 sales (up 9.6 per cent YTD) and the Mazda6 with 561 sales (up 18.1 per cent YTD) also posted strong results.

Mazda Australia remains the country’s top-selling full-line importer. So far this year retails are up 15.9 per cent and market share up one percentage point to 10.2 per cent.

Mazda Australia’s managing director, Doug Dickson said: “We are delighted with Australian car buyer’s response to our latest offerings – BT-50 and CX-5. Our first quarter running rate continues to give us confidence for a strong sales year but we will not be losing focus on looking after our valued customers.”
